The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), a neutral and independent humanitarian organization, has a vacancy at its Delegation in Athens for a resident position**:**
Communication Officer
Purpose:
Communication Officer contributes to implementing communication projects and activities, under supervision of and in coordination with the management of the delegation. S/he contributes to representing the ICRC externally and building the necessary understanding and acceptance of and support for the ICRC among key stakeholders.
Main operational responsibilities:
Operational Communication
- Develops operational communication activities and tools coherent with the delegation's identity, operational objectives and activities
- Serves as a focal point for media requests (including press releases).
- Contributes to the Delegation’s Plan of Action for operational communication objectives
- Contributes to event organization, dissemination activities, follow up/evaluation
Management of Social Media Platforms
- Develops social media content (graphics, videos and other multimedia formats) in support of the Delegation’s objectives
- Translates and posts global ICRC posts and promotes global ICRC and/or RCRC campaigns
- Produces social media content from the field, including photos and short videos.
- Collects and analyses social media metrics to gauge reach, engagement and other performance measures for social media posts, accounts and campaigns.
- Manages comments and requests
Movement
- Develops contacts and cooperates with the Hellenic Red Cross and IFRC’s communication departments.
Internal communication & reporting
- Supports the ATH Delegation and its departments with the presentation of activities in reports (development of report templates, presentation of operational data into visual reports, graphics, newsletters, infographics etc.)
- Contributes to effective internal communication within the office, as well as with the HQ
- Contributes to institutional reporting
- Provides media monitoring reports and political and social environment analysis upon request of the Delegation’s Managers and the Head of Delegation
Ideal profile
Minimum required knowledge & experience:
- University degree or professional diploma in communications, journalism, digital marketing or related field.
- 2 years' work experience in a similar field, preferably in the humanitarian sector
- Very good social media management skills
- Excellent command of Greek and English, both written and spoken
- Sound knowledge of the political and social environment
- Very good story-writing and editing skills.
- Excellent computer skills, including very good knowledge of desktop or online graphic design and publishing tools (such as Canvas, Photoshop or other similar software
- Experience with basic filming equipment
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Desirable
- Good knowledge of Adobe Premiere or other video editing software
- Good command of French
