About the Job

The Generalist Field Officer 3 contributes to stipulation, implementation and monitoring of ICRC projects and activities these includes general field work, protection, assistance, cooperation, communication, administration and logistics in coordination with the structure management. S/he also represents the ICRC at Local level.

This is a resident/national position based in Afgoye, Lower Shabelle, Somalia.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitors the security, political, economic and social developments and their impact on the population and shares oral and written analysis of the same on a timely and regular basis
  • Identifies humanitarian needs resulting from the conflict or natural factors and proposes course of action
  • Contributes to the analysis and to the planning of activities in consultation with specialists or generalists in his/her area of responsibility
  • Regularly reviews the security situation within the region based on his/her own analysis and liaises with the various stakeholders such as authorities, elders and parties to the conflict
  • Maintains and updates the mapping of stakeholders for the region and ensures reports from the field are shared in a timely manner and verifies quality of the same before submitting to the Head of Office
  • Builds up potential networking contacts in the region that can contribute the networking efforts
  • Represents the ICRC with the aim of strengthening its acceptance, access and security, and the respect of its principles of neutrality, impartiality and independence, according to the guidelines provided
  • Supervises the work of the Protection Field Officer, supports in documenting of the Protection cases and encourages other staff to collect protection related information
  • Supports other departments in supervision of projects in the field by giving inputs on the activities planned or implemented
  • Closely works with SRCS Branch team in the region and discusses ongoing, planned activities and humanitarian needs in the region including multidisciplinary Assessments
  • Collects, compiles and translates/interprets information about the projects and contributes to written reporting
  • Facilitates missions undertaken to monitor projects implemented within the region and to evaluate their outcomes and impact

Minimum qualifications and required competencies

· Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Law or relevant qualification in a related field of study

· 5 years progressive working experience in a similar field of activity

· Demonstrated management and negotiation skills in a complex setting

· Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills

· Proven Leadership and team motivation skills

· Good knowledge of the political, social, economic and cultural environment of the region

· High level of confidentiality

· Excellent command of written and spoken English and Somali

· Proficiency in MS Office Suite
