Since 2017, the Jordan Delegation contributes to the regional framework for action in favor of missing persons and their families, most significantly in relation to the Syrian conflict. The fate and whereabouts of missing persons is one of the ICRC’s operational priorities in the Middle East and in Jordan, the ICRC continues to document situations where persons went missing in Syria, without distinction of nationality.

In line with the ICRC institutional framework for Action on the Missing, the ICRC has conducted a Family Needs Assessment (FNA), with the objective to identify the specific challenges and needs of families of missing, as well as to uncover the existing resources and coping mechanisms.

The persons interviewed expressed high level of distress symptoms that they directly linked to the disappearance.
