What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) www.icrc.org responds to worldwide humanitarian needs through its global network of delegations. The ICRC is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.

In order to ensure the predictable funding of its operations, the ICRC has set itself the goal to increase income from private fundraising streams. The Legacy Officer will join a growing professional team and will work with colleagues in the fields of legacy fundraising.

Purpose

In support of the key imperative for the ICRC to become the most trusted Swiss humanitarian organization, the Swiss Market ambition is to become a role-model internally for REM’s integrated market approach to donor engagement, whilst being acclaimed externally for our demonstrable ability to establish and fully leverage leading, strategic, sustainable, humanitarian-focused and mutually beneficial collaborations with the private sector that draw on links with the public sector and the Swiss National Red Cross where relevant.

Purpose of the role

The post-holder will work closely with the Programme Manager Legacies and Gifts and will build relationships and coordination with staff within ICRC and external suppliers in order to maximize corporate contribution to private sector fundraising goals.

S/he will collaborate closely with all the colleagues of the Swiss Market Team, in particular the Private Partnerships & Philanthropy managers for German-speaking Switzerland and the Romandie.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • Administration of existing legacies file
  • Help with the follow up of legacy administration in a timely manner (letters, contacts with internal services and intermediaries such as lawyers, notaries, wealth managers)
  • Optimize and update the on- and offline filing system (mainly update data in the existing CRM - Customer Relationship Management -)
  • Support the Program Manager’s activities to develop the legacy approach with the general public, legacy prospects and intermediaries in Switzerland and elsewhere.
  • Help with the organization of the yearly integrated legacy campaign (tv campaign supported by digital, press, mailings)
  • Help with the preparation of marketing collateral and presentations.
  • Help with the follow up of suppliers (follow up of budget, invoices, quotes etc).
  • Support organisation of philanthropic or networking events as opportunities arise.
  • Help monitor current international philanthropic market and trends.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Advanced education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 1 year experience of fundraising or marketing or related work.
  • Experience of working in the following areas are an asset:

  • international humanitarian organizations

  • the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement

  • (international) fundraising

  • corporate experience

Profile and skills

  • Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills.
  • Fluency French, English and German required, Swiss German and Italian an asset.
  • Understanding of customer relationship databases and experience of Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Attention to detail and ability to deliver high quality work within defined timelines.
  • Good interpersonal and organisational skills, flexible and efficient manner.
  • Passion for humanitarian work and strong commitment to the mission of the ICRC.

  • Type of contract: 1 year extendable
  • Working rate: 80%
  • Starting date: ASAP
