About the Job
The communication field officer contributes to the design, planning and implementation of communication projects and activities in coordination with the management of the Beledweyne Sub Delegation and the Prevention/Communication Department. S/he represents the ICRC externally and builds the necessary understanding, acceptance and support of the ICRC among key stakeholders in Beledweyne Sub Delegation’s area of responsibility.
The position will be based in Beledweyne with frequent travel to Guriel, Galkacyo and Jowhar.
This is a resident/national position.
Duties and Responsibilities
· In liaison with Head/Deputy Head of the Sub delegation, defines communication and prevention objectives, strategies and action plans in line with the priorities under his/her area of responsibility.
· Implements relevant activities and develops tools for operational communication, community engagement, and the promotion of international humanitarian law
· Contributes to public communication, digital communication and information analysis/environmental scanning
· Supports management in networking with relevant stakeholders and represents the ICRC with various audiences
· Collaborates with the SRCS communication team in various activities in the field
· Follows political, security and humanitarian developments in his/her area of responsibility
· Supports communication related training and coaching for staff of field structures and other departments
· Interprets/translates from English/Somali to Somali /English in support of communication programs
Minimum qualifications and required competencies
· University degree in communication, political science, international relations, journalism or equivalent in a related field of study
· Minimum 3 years work experience in communication and/or prevention in particular field/operational communication
· Fluent in spoken and written Somali and English
· Computer skills (proficiency in MS Office); familiarity with digital communication tools
· Excellent presentation skills
· Proven planning and organizational skills
· Good knowledge of the political, social and media environment in Somalia
· Knowledge of IHL is an asset
