The ICRC Regional Delegation in Bangkok seeks to fill the following position:
Protection Field Officer
Job Purpose:
S/he assists in all activities of the Protection Department, with special emphasis in supporting activities that require interpretation and/or translation from Thai to English and vice versa, such as meetings, field visits, official documents and other related protection reports / documents
Responsibilities:
Ø Interpreter / Translator
· Interprets for delegates within the implementation of the protection activities including detention visits, meetings and other events with Department of Corrections officials or any other authority/stakeholder as requested by the protections activities;
· Translates documents for internal purposes (letters, working papers, internal and external reports and Red Cross Messages (RCM)), including confidential documents produced by the ICRC or received from outside the organization;
· Interprets during communication sessions and workshops held with different actors in Thai, as well during external meetings that are held in Thailand or abroad with representatives of the authorities and other stakeholders;
Ø Protection Support
· Briefs ICRC staff on cultural sensitivity and appropriate behavior for the local context;
· Assists in the preparation, realization and follow-up of field visits, in terms of logistics and protection work;
· Supports other protection activities (RFL / Migration, Missing, Forensics, PCP);
· Carries out interviews with people deprived of liberty maintains contact with detainee’s families; follows up on oral messages, responds to requests and compiles additional allegations;
· Implements protection activities under the supervision of the line manager.
· Contributes to analyses of the security, socioeconomic, cultural and political environment relevant to the ICRC, shares relevant information with team members, and reports any change in the situation;
· Contributes to the design and implementation of projects related to protection activities;
· Collects, compiles and interprets protection-related information (with appropriate care for staff risk management);
· Analyses and contributes to written internal reporting and activity programming (as part of institutional exercises);
· Develops and maintains contact with the municipal/regional authorities, local/regional National Society branches, the local population, suppliers, etc.;
· Prepares, participates in and reports on all aspects of field assignments.
· Participates to ICRC internal trainings (SIP, consolidation courses, etc..) as well as follows e-learning protection modules;
Qualifications and Skills:
- Excellent of speaking, understanding, writing and reading Thai and English;
- Experience as translator / interpret considered an asset;
- University degree (communication, interpreter, international relations) or other post-secondary degree an asset;
- At least one year of professional experience;
- Experience in the Humanitarian / Development sectors, international experience considered an asset;
- Good analytical skills;
- Good communication skills;
- Good knowledge of Excel and Word;
- Flexible and team player.
