Join the Legal team of an international humanitarian organization. The ICRC delegation is looking for:
Legal Officer
(Based in Makati)
The legal officer monitors and advises the delegation on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and national legal matters, conducts independent legal research and analysis of specific legal matters of relevance to the ICRC and its operations, participates in project and program reporting, and develops and maintains a network of relevant contacts.
MAIN TASKS
Contributes to the development and implementation of the ICRC’s objective to reduce overcrowding in jails by improving the respect for judicial guarantees of detainees and related problems in the criminal justice system
Provides legal advice and support to the ICRC’s protection department through technical analysis and reports on national legal framework and related policies - in particular, in relation to detention and protection issues (including internally displaced, persons, child protection, migration, access to education and sexual violence)
Monitors, researches and analyzes relevant domestic legislation, as well as draft legislation
Assists the delegation in mobilization processes involving national authorities by maintaining and developing the ICRC’s network of contacts in the legal field (government, NGOs and international organizations) and represents the ICRC in meetings, working groups, and events
Prepares reports on meetings, events and activities and contributes to the general reporting of the delegation
REQUIRED PROFILE:
A successful candidate will have:
University degree in law
Admission to the Philippine Bar
Excellent command of spoken and written English and Tagalog
Proven knowledge of detention issues
Ideally 6 years’ professional experience in the legal field
Experience working on international humanitarian law (IHL) or (international) criminal law matters
As an asset, a successful candidate may have:
- Training in IHL and International Human Rights Law (IHRL)

Duration of contract: 3 months, fixed term with possibility for extension
Start date: As soon as possible
