Join the Water and Habitat team of an international humanitarian organization. The ICRC Mindanao sub-delegation is looking for a:
Water and Habitat Engineer
(Based in Davao)
The Water and Habitat (Wathab) Engineer will plan, design, and implement engineering projects with supervision and coaching. S/he will monitors on-site works, carry out assessments, surveys, and plans new projects. The Wathab Engineer has a close working relationship with external stakeholders. Based in Davao, the position will be regularly traveling in the field, mainly supporting operations under the Mindanao area of responsibility (AoR).
MAIN TASKS:
- Draws up documents for engineering projects using approved formats
- Monitors project implementation for compliance with project documents, ICRC standards, and local building codes/standards, ensuring corrective action is taken where necessary
- Supervises small numbers of contractors working on project sites and conducts quality control of infrastructure installed by the ICRC
- Creates project files in electronic databases (such as the Wathab Project Assistant application) and keeps them up to date
- Prepares implementation / progress reports
- Provides regular information to colleagues on security, stakeholder issues, and site progress
- Manages project purchasing on labor and materials according to the delegation’s financial rules
- Administers hand-over of ICRC-provided infrastructure to end-users
- Trains or organizes trainings for end-users in the operation and maintenance of infrastructure installed by the ICRC
- Uses results-based management to evaluate project implementation
- Helps identify needs through assessment and surveys
- Responsible for the management and implementation of engineering projects in the field of rural and urban electrical facilities, emergency shelter and housing, disease vectors control from the initial analysis of the problems, and the vulnerabilities of the communities to the final evaluation of the intervention through the whole project cycle
- Works under the direct responsibility and supervision of the Mindanao Wathab Program Responsible
REQUIRED PROFILE:
A successful candidate will have:
- At least three years professional experience in a related field of activity
- Good knowledge of water and sanitation, electrical or construction engineering
- Experience in managing 1 to 3 technical support staff
- University degree in civil, structural or hydrological/hydraulic engineering, architecture, electrical or equivalent
- Excellent command of spoken and written local dialects and Filipino
- Excellent command of spoken and written English
- Proficient in the use of drawing software if working in construction and hydraulic engineering
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and MS project-management suite or equivalent
- A strong commitment to the humanitarian mandate of the ICRC and willingness to work in and adjust to difficult contexts
- Ability to analyze situations and continued initiative to propose appropriate and innovative solutions
- Capacity to multitask among electricity, water resources, and construction projects, while liaising with beneficiaries and other stakeholders
A successful candidate may have:
- Prior experience in humanitarian or development work
- International experience or exposure to international best practices for designing water structures and urban water systems and networks
- Ability to speak in other local languages used in central Mindanao
