A. CONTEXT

Established in 1863, the ICRC operates worldwide, helping people affected by conflict and armed violence and promoting the laws that protect victims of war. An independent and neutral organization, its mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We are based in Geneva, Switzerland, and employ some 16,000 people in more than 80 countries. The ICRC is funded mainly by voluntary donations from governments and from National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

In Iran, the ICRC promotes IHL and works with the authorities in Iran and Iraq to address the consequences of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, particularly the issue of missing persons. We work with the Iranian Red Crescent and maintain a logistics capacity to support ICRC operations in the region.

We are looking for a creative, multi-skilled and energetic protection assistant to join our Protection team. The post holder will work with the senior protection officer and protection data administrator to assists the structure in implementing different activities of the Protection Department in accordance with objectives in Iran.

B. JOB DESCRIPTION AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under close supervision of senior protection officer, assists the structure in implementing different activities of the Protection Department, particularly activities related to restoring family links (RFL) and archiving and data processing in accordance with objectives;

  • Processes individual cases;

  • Performs internal and external follow-up of individual cases;

  • Collects, compiles, translates/interprets information in relation with the projects and contributes to written reporting;

  • Performs various office works such as typing, filing, distribution, photocopies, updates of lists;

  • It should be noted that the position might require travelling (on mission) inside the country.

C. PROFESSIONAL EXPERINCE AND EDUCATION REQUIRED

  • University degree, preferably in sociology, psychology, or any other relevant fields of study;

  • Fluency in written and spoken English;

  • Good computer skills;

  • Good analytical skills, able to work towards tight deadlines;

  • 2 - 3 years of work experience in similar function, preferably in the field of protection;

  • Previous working experience with international or local humanitarian organizations is an asset;

  • Knowledge of migration context in Iran;

  • Willingness to travel within the county where the ICRC is operational for short missions.
