About the Job

The Logistics Assistant is responsible for all inbound and outbound logistics for ICRC operations in and around Baidoa. He/she handles dispatch, deliveries, storage, quality and quantity control, claims, distribution, packaging and inventory. He/she ensures adherence to the internal/global warehouse standards and proper documentation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Dispatches and receives shipment (transported via air and road) for ICRC operations in Baidoa;

  • Supports other Logistics offices within Somalia, when need be and willing to travel within Somalia whenever required;

  • Ensures safe arrival of cargo by any means of transport, prepares documents and follows up on the relevant levels of approval;

  • Communicates in an effective way about logistics activities, these includes, goods receipt/shipment and warehousing;

  • Handles warehouses and related documentation;

  • Organizes delivery of items according to the instructions received from the Head office in Nairobi;

  • Places orders for food supplies referring to the verified and approved suppliers list;

  • Consolidates invoices relating to food supplies on a monthly basis and shares the data with the purchasing department

  • Handles and updates the system (Oscar Light )on stock management and prepares statistics periodically;

  • Uses the available local tools, Teamspace and Excel to update cargo plans and to share information;

  • Files and archives the relevant Log documents in line with ICRC standards and rules.

About you

You should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following competencies:

  • Degree in Logistics & Procurement Management, Warehousing or Diploma in Purchasing & Supply Management, or equivalent diploma qualification in a related field;

  • 2 years work experience in a similar field of activity;

  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Somali languages;

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills;

  • Good communication and Negotiation skills;

  • Proficiency in Ms Office suite( especially Word and Excel);

  • Holder of a valid Driving license;

  • Good knowledge of political, social and cultural affairs of the assigned region.
