Purpose of the post

Reporting to the Head of Talent Acquisition and Sourcing Unit, the Head of Talent Attraction and Marketing will lead a globally dispersed team of marketing experts, charged with sourcing the future humanitarian talent of the ICRC and assuring strong and positive employer brand recognition.

The wider Talent Acquisition and Sourcing Unit is responsible for leading the evolution of integrated global talent acquisition and sourcing capability so that the ICRC global workforce has the skills and capabilities needed to successfully fulfil its humanitarian mission.

The post holder will work closely with peers and management to co-create integrated talent acquisition & sourcing strategic solutions and re-shape service delivery to ensure best in class sourcing under a coherent global vision where:

  • global planning and activity is informed by ICRC real-time and future needs,
  • resources are used for maximum target market penetration,
  • activity is part of an integrated Unit service provision, and
  • candidate experience is engaging and representative of our humanitarian values from sourcing to assessment to hire.

Key relationships

The Head of Marketing and Talent Attraction must be a strong relationship manager as they will oversee stakeholder mapping and manage external service providers as well as internal interlocutors, such as the below:

  • strategic national and international recruitment/branding/advertising agencies
  • strategic conference participation and contribution
  • liaisons within key institutes, associations and universities of strategic relevance
  • interaction with other HR sections of humanitarian agencies (MSF, ILO, WHO, etc.),
  • cooperation with Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement partners
  • within the ICRC, relevant heads of units, Heads of delegation and leaders in our specialist Divisions.

To ensure success the role requires not only sound leadership and management capabilities but also profound technical skills as well as exceptional partnering, mentoring and influencing skills.

Main duties and responsibilities

Marketing and Talent Attraction Operational Delivery

  • Oversee, with Head of Recruitment Operations, the delivery of the end to end sourcing to recruitment process: from needs analysis, attraction, assessment design and delivery, candidate evaluation and hire recommendations. Undertaking regular audits to ensure best in class service.
  • Deliver quality integrated reporting to enable leadership to evaluate and address service patterns, and to ensure that strategic delivery solutions are reflective of contextual challenges and patterns of needs.
  • Develop market based content for talent attraction activities presenting the ICRC as an attractive employer of choice in the humanitarian world.

Design and implementation of strategic projects in the Global Talent Acquisition & Attraction function

  • Develop global and regional objectives and strategic design for ways of working to ultimately create clear, prioritised and context-appropriate frameworks of marketing and talent attraction activities.
  • Engage the Marketing and Talent Attraction team around the strategic direction of the Division, gather input and foster a culture of strong and engaged professional relationships.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Unit and other key HR staff in the definition of short and long term strategic needs before developing and implementing strategic talent attraction solutions to identify and enable supply of best in class talent both internally and externally.
  • Lead the day to day operations team project implementation, training, and use of the Recruitment Module & Careers website interface for SAP Successfactors and other relevant technological tools.
  • In line with the Institutional strategic direction, co-create a global operations talent attraction model with core processes and functions suitable for a globalized structure. Identify and propose strategic opportunities for project or work streams within this frame.

Team and Stakeholder Management

  • Manage global and diverse team; training, supporting and mentoring team members to ensure they are set up for success
  • Work within team to identify tool development needs to ensure excellent candidate experience and attraction options.
  • Review and establish effective ways of working (within unit and with HR Partners, Managers and Metiers) across the operations team which ensure: adequate forward planning; proactive partnership between teams; feedback loops on service delivery; campaign monitoring and evaluation, and data collection and reporting
  • Manage annual budget forecasting and expenditure along with delivery to annual work plan

Education and experience required

  • University degree in Human Resources, Marketing, Communications or in related discipline, or equivalent by experience;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Marketing in a multinational structure with global presence;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in managing a globally dispersed and culturally diverse team in an international environment;
  • Humanitarian operational experience in the ICRC is a strong asset;
  • Experience of markedly improving user experience and attraction practice, ideally with experience of rolling out careers site and application process improvements;
  • Experience of improving or unifying global employer brand is highly desirable;
  • Experience with ‘hands on’ advertising with proven track record of sourcing, recruiting, and closing exceptional talent would be an asset;
  • Fluency in English is essential, with a good working knowledge of French highly desirable.

  • Available to travel regularly to undertake global marketing activities and team support
