Contributes to formulating and achieving ICRC’s objectives in Sri Lanka, notably those linked to legal and policy objectives pertaining to the respect for IHL/IHR laws.
Contributes to the annual planning and budget process of ICRC in Sri Lanka, monitors and reports on the implementation of the legal and policy objectives, notably in the field of Prevention (IHL treaty participation, teaching of IHL at academic level and within the military/ police, legal medical practitioners, judiciary and targeted sectors of civil society) and Protection (focus on Missing, Migrants).
Monitoring developments in the national implementation of IHL and relevant IHRL norms in Sri Lanka and provides expert advice to the National IHL Committee.
Provides legal advice and technical assistance to national authorities in areas of humanitarian interest as necessary.
Contributes to meeting legal and policy objectives of ICRC in Asia Pacific.
How to apply:
Masters degree in IHL or IHRL is essential, PhD in IHL or IHRL will be an advantage.
Excellent legal drafting skills.
Excellent command of written and spoken English; good knowledge of Tamil and Sinhala is an asset.
6 year’s experience in a similar function with experience in teaching/dissemination at an academic level.
Working experience in government or judicial sector, experience in multi-disciplinary, international setting will be an advantage. Prior experience with ICRC/Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement will be an advantage.
