The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), a neutral and independent humanitarian organization, has a vacancy at its Mission in Athens for the position of:

Field Officer to Protection Unit (M/F)[RFL/PCP]

In her/his role as a field officer to protection Unit (Restoring Family Links and Protection of Civilian Population), s/he assists the ICRC on RFL activities by supporting in follow up and treatment RFL/Tracing caseload (by respecting procedures and guidelines as well as maintaining individual files etc). The field officer participates to field visits. The field officer assists the ICRC on PCP activities in monitoring the overall humanitarian situation of migrants and in networking with actors of interest for ICRC PCP activities. The field officer provides some translation support in Greek/English (verbal and written) for the protection unit.

General Overview

Under responsibility of Head or RFL/Missing Unit and technical support of RFL delegate:

  • S/he supports the follow-up and treatment of RFL/Tracing caseload;
  • S/he receives visitors and beneficiaries in coordination with the RFL delegate and if relevant, fills out Tracing Request forms or other RFL forms, in accordance with RFL/Tracing guidelines;
  • S/he ensures the sharing of information with the ICRC Data Administrator for registration in internal database as well as ensures the transmission of cases collected by the ICRC to the Hellenic Red Cross;
  • S/he follows-up tracing cases by maintaining individual files and keeping them updated as per the internal procedures put in place and checking the correct organization of the filing cabinet, etc.

Under responsibility of PCP delegate:

  • S/he supports the PCP delegate in networking with relevant actors, especially Greek NGOs, in the PCP field;
  • S/he monitors the overall humanitarian situation of migrants in Greece and urban areas from the media and local sources and keeps the PCP delegate updated on relevant developments.

Translation responsibilities:

  • Carries out verbal and written translations of ICRC and relevant non-ICRC documents (English - Greek and vice versa, or other languages);
  • S/he assists the ICRC delegates and field officers on the drafting of minutes of meeting, field trip reports and internal reports when requested.

Ideal profile

  • High school degree minimum. Preferably university degree; 
  • Fluent in English and Greek. Others written and spoken languages are an asset (e.g. Arabic, Farsi or Dari, Urdu, Pashtu); 
  • Previous relevant experience in the humanitarian sector is an asset; 
  • Highly motivated for humanitarian work; 
  • Able to work in a multi-cultural environment; 
  • Ability, flexibility and willingness to travel and work in often difficult conditions all around Greece; 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention for detail; 
  • Good communication and networking skills; 
  • Demonstrating empathy; 
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently; 
  • Very good computer literacy; 
  • Compulsory driving license valid in Greece.
