JOB PURPOSE
The Finance & Control Specialist is responsible for the preparation, reconciliation, and analysis of accounting records and financial reports for both the Field and Headquarters units within their scope.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
The Financial & Control Specialist works with a team under the Financial Shared Services, that is primarily responsible for:
- Review and post payroll journals prepared by the Human Resources department.
- Reconcile payroll amounts between the payroll system and the accounting system.
- Generate monthly correcting entries related to payroll.
- Monitor accounts related to staff salaries, social charges, and other benefits, investigating any unusual entries.
- Investigate salaries returned from the bank and collaborate with relevant departments for resolution.
- Verify entries for salary advances and provide external flat files to the payroll administrator.
- Reconcile reimbursements from government and insurance sources with payments made to employees.
- Validate the accuracy of social charge payments to government authorities.
- Reconcile payments to National Societies for temporary staff hired by ICRC with recorded salary expenses.
- Conduct analytical reviews of salary expenses and social charges at year-end.
- Prepare summary reports on post-employment benefit costs.
- Ensure the new payroll system delivers complete and accurate accounting information and recommend feature changes if necessary.
- Assist in preparing IRS US Tax - Individual Compensation documentation.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
- Certified Public Accountant/CPA
- 3-4 years working experience in financial accounting
- Very good computer skills (Excel, Word) and good understanding in Peoplesoft
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills
- Strong planning and organizational skills
