About the ICRC

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and protracted crises at the same time promoting respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation of the Red Cross in order to ensure a concerted humanitarian response to address the needs of the people affected by armed conflict or other situation of violence.

Role Description:

The Protection Field Officer supports the Protection team in Poland. S/he supports outreach with communities, community service organisations, organisations representing the community of interest, networking with governmental bodies at central, regional and local level, and other relevant humanitarian actors. S/he monitors the main developments in the country of relevance to the ICRC’s operational objectives and presence and proposes avenues for action in support of programming and engagement with target communities.

Main responsibilities:

PROTECTION ACTIVITIES

  • Supports ICRC and Polish Red Cross strategy of outreach to refugee community and networking
  • Contributes to developing and maintaining the network of stakeholders involved in protection-related issues at local level.
  • Contributes to the assessment and identification of priority protection issues for further monitoring and follow up
  • Monitors the humanitarian environment and needs, and analyses the security, socio-economic, cultural and political environment as relevant to the ICRC. Shares relevant information with colleagues and reports any changes in the situation
  • Contributes to the implementation of Protection of Civilian Population (PCP) activities
  • Supports the Protection Family Links (PFL) team in the follow up of specific PFL cases
  • In coordination with the Protection Delegate, contributes actively to defining key protection messages and operational priorities.

REPRESENTATION/NETWORKING

  • Based on the activities and mandate of the ICRC, develops, and maintains a network of contacts with Polish authorities, civil society, international organizations, I/NGOs, CBOs and CSOs.
  • Arranges, plans and follows-up meetings. If necessary, support the preparation of speaking notes and drafts minutes of meeting.

PLANNING AND REPORTING

  • Participates in the annual planning processes and monitors the implementation of aspect pertaining to interaction with authorities and relevant communities.
  • Participates in the institutional reporting, planning processes in relation to the said Prevention objectives.

This candidate will also ensure due administrative and finance process is fulfilled. Meanwhile, the candidate bears the responsibilities of treating information accurately and with confidentiality thus communicating and reporting according to ICRC standard.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in similar positions or social work
  • Fluent in English, Polish, Ukrainian and/or Russian
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Be flexible and adaptive
