VACANCY: Political Advisor, Mosul

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral and independent international humanitarian organisation, which assists and protects victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence. The ICRC is currently looking for staff for its operations in Iraq.

Level: B3 **

Duty Station: Iraq – Mosul Sub-Delegation**

Reports to: Head of Sub-Delegation**

Duration of Contract: 1 year fixed term contract (with the possibility of renewal based on needs and performance).**

Objective:

The Political Adviser in Mosul Sub Delegation is the focal point for security matters and advises the Sub Delegation management on political developments and changes in the overall environment and security dynamics. S/he identifies, maintains and broadens a network of contacts in Mosul and facilitates management access to them. The overarching goal is to achieve broad acceptance of ICRC’s work, deepen the institution’s understanding of the context, coordinating with the field teams to monitor and analyse the overall environment.

Main duties and responsibilities:

§ Advises the Management and staff on political issues and security situation and contributes to defining the sub delegation’s overall strategies.

§ Actively maintains and develops a network of contacts with the authorities, civil society, IRCS and other stakeholders, facilitating management access to them.

§ Participates in external security and operational meetings

§ Proactively proposes interlocutors for the management to meet and writes briefing memos in preparation of meetings.

§ Provides security briefings to new and visiting staff.

§ Oversees security guards, participates to their training and ensures best practices

§ Member of the security team, providing information and advise to management to ensure timely notification of important incidents that impact security of the team.

Education and Professional Experience required:

Ÿ Relevant university degree, or relevant professional experience

Ÿ Fluent in written and spoken Arabic and English, other languages spoken in Ninawa an asset

Ÿ Computer proficiency**

Ÿ 5 - 10 years work experience in a similar field

Ÿ Confirmed analysis capability in a similar field of activities.

Ÿ Ability to demonstrates existence of relevant network.**
