About the Job
The Networking Adviser supports and deputizes the Networking Coordinator in his/her specific area of expertise and maintains up-to-date mapping of key contacts and groups and adapted databases for information sharing and knowledge management.
This is a resident/National position based in Nairobi, Kenya with frequent travel to all field offices in Somalia.
Duties and Responsibilities
Carries out institutional analysis of the groups and issues linked to them in his/her area or expertise
Contributes to devising and implementing of a plan of action
Manages information through accurate reporting, database maintenance, exchanges between sub delegations and delegations and more generally, by rigorously documenting relevant developments in the context and workstreams he/she is associated with
Contributes to ICRC security by developing a network of trust at field officer level within ICRC sub delegations across the region
Helps organize internal seminars and international humanitarian law training sessions tailored for specific audiences
Monitors media run by all groups, analyses and shares information using the tools developed within the delegation and new tools s/he develops
Supports the crisis team and other departments with sensitive Somali language translations
Understands and supervises the Performance Management & Development (PMD) activities for employees under his/her supervision
Organizes regular meetings within the team to ensure optimal coordination of the work and proper flow of information
Coordinates and supports the employees under their supervision in their personal development by coaching and advising them on internal and external training and development possibilities
Minimum qualifications and required competencies
University degree in Humanities
5 years progressive working experience in a similar field of activity
Ability to network, represent the organization externally and dialogue with major stakeholders
Strong skills in analysing and sorting through data and political information
Successfully created a network of new contacts and partners at regional level, mapped the environment and identified new humanitarian issues
Strong and effective communication skills, with proven ability to negotiate and influence change, with cultural sensitivity
Good knowledge of the political, social, economic and cultural environment of the region
Knowledge of International Humanitarian Law/International Human Rights
Sound knowledge of Somalia culture & customs
High level of confidentiality
Excellent skills in written and spoken English and Somali (non-Somali-speaking persons need not apply)
Proficiency in MS Office suite
