The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles. The ICRC's Regional Delegation in Nairobi co-ordinates the institution's humanitarian activities in Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti.

Overall Responsibility

As the Nairobi Design Centre lead, you are specialized in human-centered design and will be responsible for planning, running and developing our activities at the NAI Design Centre (NAIDC). You will lead a multidisciplinary team to ensure successful delivery of NAI DC Service Catalogue and actively contribute to the overall goal of enabling building technology solutions that are user centric and based on human centered design.

Tasks and responsibilities

· Leading the NAIDC team (2 design facilitators, 1 prototype), by taking an active role in developing staff to remain relevant in the industry with trainings and mentorship, employee engagement, and performance management;

· Being accountable for the NAIDC resources and scheduling successful implementation of projects;

· Ensuring that NAIDC services and deliverables meet high standards, effectively monitor, control and report on and the realization of benefits tracked accordingly to Tech Transformation;

· Planning & being in charge of workshops to gather business partners’ requirements, using different techniques to break down barriers, communicate better and generate new ideas;

· Leading user research with methodologies including user tests, in-dept interviews, focus groups, ethnographic field studies and surveys;

· Ensuring successful brainstorming and work sessions with cross-disciplinary teams to move from research findings into product/service visions and design-driven strategies;

· Assisting teams in adjusting the design process and selecting the best approach to fit projects constrains;

· Ensuring a strong alignment between multiple parties, including PMO, Experience Design team, Tech and Data Board and represent NAI DC Centre in various internal and external capacities;

· Working closely with the Experience Design Manager to implement on organisational-wide UX results and strategic objectives;

· Collaborating with the Head of ICT Region in facilitating access to the "reality of the field" on two directions - by opening the network for user feedback, and in support to potential "grassroots" projects that come up.

Minimum Requirements and competencies

· University degree (Bachelor’s or higher) in interaction design, human factors, computer interaction, behavioural psychology, human/computer interactions, branding and marketing or a similar degree or experience that may substitute for a degree;

· 7-12 years of professional experience in design, entrepreneurship, social innovation or equivalent, with 4 years in people management;

· Computer proficiency, knowledge of FIGMA, ASANA, Slack and other online collaboration tools;

· Experience in facilitating workshops, conducting user research and prototyping and testing design interventions on a large and small scale;

· Experience in growing design teams, leading a design discipline UX strategy, execution and tools, understand and articulate the technical feasibility of solutions;

· Experience in managing creative teams, leading a design discipline UX strategy, execution and tools, understand and articulate the technical feasibility of solutions;

· Proven experience in stakeholder management and project management (PRINCE2, Agile, PMP), including managing corporate stakeholders, understanding their needs and developing proposals and strategies accordingly to support their clients (external or internal) in delivering user-centric products and services;

· Ability to work with analytics and data;

· Certificate of good conduct.
