The Protection Field Officer contributes to the implementation and monitoring of ICRC’s protection activities in ICRC Cotabato area of responsibility. S/he works in line with the Protection Delegate and the ICRC team to respond to protection concerns arising from armed conflict in the specified areas.
MAIN TASKS:
- Participates in the assessment and monitoring of humanitarian situation in the area as well as the general political/socio-economical/security situation
- Assists in the implementation of activities linked to the protection of civilians and support to detention activities
- Contributes to the ICRC’s networking activities with various stakeholders
- Promotes and disseminates the principles of international humanitarian law (IHL)
- Liaises with other ICRC departments for organization of specific events
- Coordinates with Philippine Red Cross (PRC) local chapters for joint activities
- Prepares written reports on a periodic and project basis
- Establishes and maintains contacts with various groups, including individual beneficiaries, humanitarian organizations and local authorities
- Contributes to the formulation of objectives, plans of action, and preparation of budget
- Travels regularly within the assigned areas
REQUIRED PROFILE:
A successful candidate will have:
- University degree or equivalent in relevant field
- At least 3 years’ experience in a similar field of activities
- Good command of written and spoken English, Filipino and spoken local language (Maguindanao, Maranao, and Cebuano)
- Good knowledge of the social, cultural, religious, and political environment of Central Mindanao
- Comprehensive and accurate analytical skills
- Skills for planning, organization, assessment, and program implementation
- High level of negotiation and social skills
- Flexibility to work several weeks in the field and travel to different areas
- Ability to take initiative and work both in a team and with autonomy in a multidisciplinary approach
- Ability to work under stressful conditions while maintaining patience, perseverance, and self- confidence
