What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The Individual Giving Officer will play an active role developing high quality mailings and digital products for the Swiss market to increase the number of new donors and build engagement, loyalty and value with individual supporters. These products may also be used by other parts of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • Develop and implement fundraising and communication strategies and plans of action for individual giving according to the results and learnings of previous campaigns, financial and humanitarian needs and supporter behaviour in close collaboration with the Individual Giving Manager
  • Develop and coordinate, within the ICRC and with external communication agencies, communication tools and products, such as key messages, print products, audiovisual materials, digital campaigns and telemarketing campaigns to increase the number of donors and overall revenue generated and strengthened loyalty.
  • Create marketing-oriented concepts relevant to specific audiences in cooperation with internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare and create appeals in cases of emergencies, both print and online, for the Swiss market
  • Support the development and implementation of perception and marketing research
  • Track direct marketing and digital campaign results for the Swiss market to generate learnings and adapt future strategies and plans of action accordingly for future fundraising successes
  • Support the creation and circulation of the donor magazine (copywriting, validation, editing, translation, layout, production, analysis).
  • Everyday management of the relationship with various internal stakeholders (in particular REM and CIM colleagues) and external suppliers.
  • Ensure industry standards and best practices are implemented, and evolve partnerships as needed.
  • Ensure that all activities accurately reflect and are sensitive to ICRC operational priorities
  • Ensure that the ICRC’s Ethical Policy and policy regarding use of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Emblems are followed at all times taking the advice of senior staff when appropriate.

Certifications / Education required

  • University degree

Professional Experience required

Minimum 4 years of experience in fundraising and/or in marketing/communications/journalism ideally in the humanitarian field or in the Swiss foundation/association/NGO sector

  • Demonstrable track record of content development and project management in previous employment
  • 2 years experience in print and digital production a must
  • Experience of interacting and negotiating with suppliers/agencies and internal stakeholders
  • Fluency in English and French required
  • Excellent writting skills in German required

  • Proven project management capabilities and organizational skills
  • Personal resilience, ability to work against tight deadlines and budgets in a fast-paced environment, keeping a keen eye on detail and accuracy
  • Ability to operate in complex international organizations
  • Passion for humanitarian work and strong commitment to the mission of the ICRC
