The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a Geneva-based humanitarian organization that protects and assists victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence without discrimination. It has been providing humanitarian aid in the Philippines for more than 70 years, with a permanent presence since 1982. The ICRC works closely with the Philippine Red Cross, its primary partner in the country.

Join the Protection team of an international humanitarian organization. The ICRC Mindanao sub-delegation is looking for a:

Protection Field Officer

(Based in Davao)

The Protection Field Officer contributes to the implementation and monitoring of ICRC protection activities in the area of responsibility of the ICRC Davao Sub-delegation. S/he works in line with the Protection Delegate and the ICRC team to respond to protection concerns arising from armed conflict in the specified areas.

MAIN TASKS:

  • Implements protection activities under the supervision of the Protection Delegate

  • Provides analysis of security, socioeconomic, cultural, and political environment relevant to the ICRC, and shares relevant information with team members and reports any change in the situation

  • Designs and implements protection responses and projects

  • Collects, compiles, and interprets protection-related information

  • Analyzes and contributes to written internal reporting and activity programming

  • Develops and maintains contact with different stakeholders

  • Prepares, coordinates, and reports on all aspects of field assignments

  • Supports the sub-delegation and other teams as deemed necessary

  • Promotes and disseminates the principles of international humanitarian law (IHL)

  • Liaises with other ICRC departments for organization of specific events

  • Coordinates with Philippine Red Cross (PRC) local chapters for joint activities

  • Prepares written reports on a periodic and project basis

  • Establishes and maintains contact with various groups, including individual beneficiaries, humanitarian organizations, and local authorities

  • Travels regularly within the assigned areas

REQUIRED PROFILE:

A successful candidate will have:

  • University degree or equivalent in a relevant field

  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in a similar field

  • Good knowledge of the social, cultural, religious, and political environment of Central Mindanao

  • Fluent in spoken and written English, Tagalog, and Visayan

  • Good organizational skills

  • Good analytical skills

  • Good communication skills

  • The ability to work under stressful conditions while maintaining patience, perseverance, self-confidence

As an asset, a successful candidate may have:

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Awareness and respect of professional and institutional ethics, particularly with respect to confidentiality

  • Flexibility to work several weeks in the field and to travel to different areas

  • Good geographical knowledge of Davao Region
